A Latch is a special type of logical circuit. The latches have low and high two stable states. Due to these states, latches also refer to as bistable-multivibrators. A latch is a storage device that holds the data using the feedback lane.

How does a latching switch work?

A latching switch, when wired normally open, can be pressed once to close the electrical circuit and cause something to switch on. When the pressure is removed from a latching switch it remains on until the user switches it off again by pressing it once to re-open the circuit causing a break in the electrical current.

What is latching and non latching?

A latching relay is an electromechanical switch commonly selected when the operator must control (either switch off or amplify) a large amount of current flow. It will remain in the last position it was when last powered, whereas a non-latching relay will return to its typical position.
